Festival and Cause

(The first Portland blues festival featured John Lee Hooker. In this famous picture blown up, you could see me in the crowd in front of the sound booth with my four year-old daughter on my shoulders watching a great Hooker performance. Great memory.)

Dammann booked more than 120 acts for this year’s Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, which begins July 2. Among the performers: Buddy Guy, Gregg Allman, Macy Gray, Charmaine Neville.

Blues, funk, zydeco — it will all be seen on Portland’s 4 waterfront stages.

“It’ll be a blast,” Dammann said. “Hopefully raise a lot of money for the food bank.”

Susanna Morgan echoed that.

“This was not just a fundraiser. This is a community institution.”

The suggested donation for the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival is $10 each day. In the past, they also asked for 2 cans of food, but the Oregon Food Bank said the cash goes further since they can buy food in bulk at a discount.

It's that time of year.

Though to be completely honest I've sort of lost interest in the festival.  It's easier to just put some music on at home and kick back.
