Quote:

“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”--Martin Luther King

Notes from a Former Incarnation by M. Wilson

A very spiritual and religious man, Mark Wilson was a good friend from my early years in Portland. He wrote a number of freelance articles for the newpaper I worked for and contributed this poem to Cold Eye. Last I heard he was living in London and working for the Mother Teresa organization there.

Once I was soft,
easy, blind by being so anxious
to please women—
I chased them with words,
now they
have gone to listen
for other voices.
Kate!

The land is dry.
I am quiet, yet silence is a lie.
The common truth—my insides
scream to be touched.
The fact that these words serve
only to be seen, not heard,
attests to the fact that,
being so anxious to please women—
I lost my self.
